Most people think they can't sing. Most people are wrong.

What holds people back isn’t talent. It’s never having had someone show them how their voice actually works. Singing is a skill. Like any skill, it responds to good coaching, consistent practice, and a teacher who listens.

At City Vocal Coach, we’ve taught over 1,000 adults in London. Some came in barely able to hold a note in tune. Others were already performing but felt stuck. What they all had in common: within a few lessons, something shifted. The voice they’d always had started to feel like theirs.

Inside a session

An hour built entirely around you

Every lesson starts with your voice. Where it is that day, what you’re working towards, what’s been on your mind. Your coach will warm you up properly, not just to get you ready but to teach you how your voice functions and why.

From there, we work on the songs you want to sing. Real songs. Not exercises for their own sake, but technique applied to music that means something to you. Whether that’s a West End ballad, a Radiohead deep cut, or something you’ve written yourself.

By the end of a session you’ll have made audible progress. Not in six months. That day.

What we work on: Pitch and tone · Breath control and support · Vocal range · Resonance and power · Performing with confidence · Song interpretation · Your own material

More than lessons

You're joining something, not just booking sessions

A lesson at City Vocal Coach isn’t just an hour in a room. From the moment you start, you become part of a community of adult singers in London who are all working on the same thing: finding their voice and actually using it.

What’s included with every lesson:

Performance opportunities We run regular student showcases so you can take what you’re learning and put it in front of an audience. In a room full of people who get it.

A private student community We can add you to our WhatsApp group, where students share wins, support each other, and stay connected between sessions.

Free workshops and meet-ups Regular events, open to all students, covering everything from songwriting to stage presence to just getting together and singing.

Vocal pod access Practice between lessons in our soundproofed vocal pod at Hoxton Works. Because progress happens in the hours between sessions too, (subject to availability).

Discounts on group courses Students get priority access and reduced pricing on our Open Mic Ready course and Songwriting course.

Your coaches

The people you'll work with

Every teacher at City Vocal Coach is a working musician and trained vocal specialist. We don’t take on coaches who aren’t performing themselves, because we believe the best teachers are still students of their craft.

Common questions

Q: Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Many of our students come to us having never had a lesson in their life, and some haven’t sung since school. We start from wherever you are and build from there.
Q: How often should I have lessons?
Once a week is ideal for steady progress, but we work around busy lives. Fortnightly lessons work well for a lot of our students. What matters most is consistency over time, not frequency.
Q: What happens in a discovery call?
It’s a free 15-minute call with Sam. You’ll tell him what you’re hoping to achieve, she’ll ask a few questions, and between you you’ll work out whether lessons are right for you and which teacher would be the best fit. No hard sell, no commitment.
Q: Can I choose which teacher I work with?
Yes. After your discovery call, Sam will recommend a teacher based on your goals and musical taste, but the final choice is always yours. You can also meet teachers before committing.
Q: What if I need to cancel a lesson?
We ask for 48 hours’ notice for a full refund. Cancellations inside 48 hours are charged in full. This protects your teacher’s time and keeps things fair for everyone.
Q: Do you offer lessons online?
Yes. Online lessons are available via Google Meet for students who can’t make it to Hoxton in person.
