Most people think they can't sing. Most people are wrong.
What holds people back isn’t talent. It’s never having had someone show them how their voice actually works. Singing is a skill. Like any skill, it responds to good coaching, consistent practice, and a teacher who listens.
At City Vocal Coach, we’ve taught over 1,000 adults in London. Some came in barely able to hold a note in tune. Others were already performing but felt stuck. What they all had in common: within a few lessons, something shifted. The voice they’d always had started to feel like theirs.
Inside a session
An hour built entirely around you.
Every lesson starts with your voice. Where it is that day, what you’re working towards, what’s been on your mind. Your coach will warm you up properly, not just to get you ready but to teach you how your voice functions and why.
From there, we work on the songs you want to sing. Real songs. Not exercises for their own sake, but technique applied to music that means something to you. Whether that’s a West End ballad, a Radiohead deep cut, or something you’ve written yourself.
By the end of a session you’ll have made audible progress. Not in six months. That day.
What we work on: Pitch and tone · Breath control and support · Vocal range · Resonance and power · Performing with confidence · Song interpretation · Your own material
More than lessons
You're joining something, not just booking sessions.
A lesson at City Vocal Coach isn’t just an hour in a room. From the moment you start, you become part of a community of adult singers in London who are all working on the same thing: finding their voice and actually using it.
What’s included with every singing lesson:
Performance opportunities We run regular student showcases so you can take what you’re learning and put it in front of an audience. In a room full of people who get it.
A private student community We can add you to our WhatsApp group, where students share wins, support each other, and stay connected between sessions.
Free workshops and meet-ups Regular events, open to all students, covering everything from songwriting to stage presence to just getting together and singing.

EXCELLENT Based on 155 reviews Posted on Google Hemmy17 June 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing place for singing lessons. I was able to improve my voice and technique just after the first few lessons. Over time we worked on range, technique and tone. Sam is an amazing teacher as well. He's very patient and able to pick up on areas I need to improve for fast results. Would recommend!Posted on Google Jean-Baptiste G.15 June 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve just completed five singing lessons with Sam and I’m genuinely very happy with how it went. From our very first conversation, he understood what I was aiming for, as well as my musical tastes and influences. I was initially quite embarrassed about singing, but his professional and supportive approach helped me break through that mental barrier. During the lessons, he helped me improve my vocal tuning, listening skills, and overall technique (tongue position, open throat, false vocal fold retraction). He also gave me valuable songwriting advice, especially on word choice to make my lyrics clearer and more natural, and helped me refine chord choices for my songs. Overall, I now have a much better understanding of how my voice works and what I’m capable of. This experience has been extremely motivating for my future creative work, and I would go back to Sam without hesitation in a heartbeat.Posted on Google Harrison Pierce11 June 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve had Sam as my vocal coach and he’s brilliant. He’s helped me discover things about my voice and singing habits that I was never aware of, as well as just how versatile my voice can be. The lessons are always fun, engaging and something I genuinely look forward to. It’s always a pleasure going there and I’ve learned a lot along the way. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to develop their voice.Posted on Google Andreas Baumbach11 June 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful one-to-one singing lessons with Sam Marlow. As a total beginner who never believed he could sing, I noticed an immediate difference. Very personal, very professional, and a lovely studio in Hoxton. I still struggle — but I'm learning, and I look forward to every session. Highly recommended.Posted on Google Emma Rivera9 June 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to City Vocal Coach for helping me develop my vocals and, most importantly, my confidence as a singer. Through the excellent vocalisation techniques and the guidance on how to truly connect with the melody and lyrics of a song, I have been able to unlock aspects of my voice that I never knew I was capable of. I now feel much more confident singing songs that I once found challenging, especially those that required me to reach higher ranges and express greater emotion. What makes CVC even more special is its wonderful community of people who share the same passion for music and performing. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the showcase, which was an unforgettable experience. Everyone was so welcoming, encouraging, and supportive. The coaches are exceptional, and I feel especially blessed to have found a coach as talented, patient, and inspiring as Sam. His guidance has helped me grow not only as a vocalist but also as a performer. Thank you, City Vocal Coach, for creating such a positive and inspiring environment where people are encouraged to grow, challenge themselves, and become better musicians. I am incredibly grateful to be part of this community.Posted on Google Nigel Hinds16 May 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Expert and encouraging coaching which made a real difference to my skills and confidencePosted on Google Amine14 May 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Malin is a very talented and attentive vocal coach. She can play along to virtually any song on both guitar and piano, which makes lessons even more enjoyable. I’ve had a great experience and highly recommend her!Posted on Google Jeremy Ireland22 April 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was an ok singer but a terrible performer when I started this. It's a super quick burst of classes that lifts you up and puts you on a stage with no excuses or get-outs.. which is just what I needed! I learnt a range of techniques to better guarantee that confident onstage feeling. And the value of truly committing to performance..Ive performed several times since, and the songs I workshopped on the course are always the ones performed best. Highly recommended.Posted on Google Estella Shi10 April 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just finished the open mic ready course, it was such a safe and supportive place to learn and push yourself beyond the comfort zone!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Your coaches
The people you'll work with.
Every teacher at City Vocal Coach is a working musician and trained vocal specialist. We don’t take on coaches who aren’t performing themselves, because we believe the best teachers are still students of their craft.
Common questions.
None at all. Many of our students come to us having never had a lesson in their life, and some haven’t sung since school. We start from wherever you are and build from there.
Once a week is ideal for steady progress, but we work around busy lives. Fortnightly lessons work well for a lot of our students. What matters most is consistency over time, not frequency.
It’s a free 15-minute call with Sam. You’ll tell him what you’re hoping to achieve, she’ll ask a few questions, and between you you’ll work out whether lessons are right for you and which teacher would be the best fit. No hard sell, no commitment.
Yes. After your discovery call, Sam will recommend a teacher based on your goals and musical taste, but the final choice is always yours. You can also meet teachers before committing.
We ask for 48 hours’ notice for a full refund. Cancellations inside 48 hours are charged in full. This protects your teacher’s time and keeps things fair for everyone.
Yes. Online lessons are available via Google Meet for students who can’t make it to Hoxton in person.
