ABOUT City vocal coach
From Sam, our founder
In 2009, my band got dropped from our record label and split up. I was in my mid-twenties with no savings, no plan B, and one skill: I could sing.
So I did the only thing I could think of. I strapped a guitar to my back, got on my bike, and started teaching singing lessons across London, wherever anyone would have me. Living rooms, community halls, anywhere someone would open their door.
It was exciting for about five minutes. Then it was just exhausting. Cycling from one side of London to the other, back-to-back lessons, feeling awkward in other people’s homes, no structure, no business, no plan.
That’s when I found a proper teaching space. Then I found a teacher who shared the vision. Then another. Some of them have been with me for over 15 years now.
That scrappy one-man operation became City Vocal Coach, a London agency that’s helped over 1,000 students find their voice, with our home in Hoxton.
What we believe
We believe great singing isn’t about sounding like someone else. It’s about unlocking what’s already in you, building the technique, the confidence and the freedom to use your voice the way you want to.
We also believe lessons alone aren’t enough. The fastest progress happens when you perform, when you get feedback in front of others, when you’re part of a community of singers who push each other forward.
That’s why City Vocal Coach is more than just a singing school.
OUR COMMUNITY
More than just lessons
When you join City Vocal Coach you don’t just get a weekly lesson. You become part of something.
Our students perform at seasonal showcases, real stages, real audiences, something to work towards. They come to open mic nights where nerves become confidence over time. They get mid-week check-ins from their teacher so they never feel disconnected between sessions. They make friends who love singing as much as they do.
This community is something we’re incredibly proud of. Some of our students have been with us for years, not just because their voice is improving, but because they genuinely love being here.
“I started City Vocal Coach because I wanted something better for singers who just wanted to sing. Fifteen years later I’m still here, still learning, and still genuinely excited every time a student finds their voice.”
